At RSI, we?re seeking an Automation Engineer with hands-on experience in Playwright and TypeScript to develop and maintain automated tests for web applications. The position is offered under a contractor agreement through December 2026, with the possibility of extension into 2027.
Key Responsibilities
-) Convert existing manual test cases into automated Playwright tests using an established TypeScript framework.
-) Build and extend page objects and helper methods while following existing standards and conventions.
-) Evaluate manual test cases before automating them to determine whether automation is worthwhile.
-) Develop reliable, stable tests and identify ways to prevent and reduce test failures caused by flakiness.
-) Investigate failed test runs to distinguish actual software defects from test issues by reviewing reports, traces, and recent code changes.
-) Use AI tools to improve productivity when creating tests, while verifying and debugging the generated output before integration.
-) Collaborate with QA and engineering teams to establish test IDs and selectors and identify gaps in test coverage.
-) Help reduce the existing automation backlog, prioritizing tests classified as Highest and High priority.
Requirements and Qualifications
-) Hands-on experience developing UI automated tests using Playwright and TypeScript.
-) Experience working within an existing automation framework and following established conventions.
-) Strong debugging skills, including troubleshooting flaky tests, managing waits, and implementing reliable selectors.
-) Experience using AI tools to generate automated tests, with the ability to understand, verify, and debug the output before accepting it.
-) Ability to work independently, consult documentation and existing code before requesting assistance, and communicate questions clearly when needed.
-) Sound judgment in determining which test cases are suitable for automation.
-) Experience testing web applications is required; e-commerce experience is preferred.
-) Experience running automated tests in continuous integration (CI) environments is a plus. Familiarity with AWS-based CI environments is beneficial.
-) Experience with Jira and Xray, or similar test management tools, is a plus.
