Full time position based in Tunja (Boyacá). This position performs a variety of clinical and administrative duties in support of the Health Unit. The Medical Assistant (MA) works under the guidance of Peace Corps Medical Officers (PCMOs) and reports to the Country Director (CD) for administrative issues (unless CD authorizes PCMO supervision).

The MA is responsible for providing administrative support and, to the extent credentialed, clinical support, including but not limited to; working as the health unit receptionist, actively assisting the PCMOs in clinical care*, screening phone calls, taking messages, coordinating requests, scheduling medical appointments, distributing of medicines to Peace Corps Volunteers (PCVs) under PCMO oversight, and other clerical and administrative functions in support of the PCMOs.

*Clinical duties will be performed with clinical oversight by the PCMOs and only as approved by the Medical Director through the Credentialing Committee/Office of Health Services (OHS) and must adhere to confidentiality regarding PCVs medical issues and possess excellent interpersonal and administrative skills.

Main duties:
- Performs a variety of non-invasive routine clinical and technical services under the supervision of the PCMOs, which may include clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, administering immunizations, performing laboratory tests, etc.
- Responsible for sterilization of equipment.
- Serves as chaperone for PCMOs during PCV medical examinations and procedures.
- Administer Medical Unit reception and phone calls including appointments coordination, communication with clinics, consultants, laboratories and health providers.
- Manage correspondence including letters, photocopies, memos, packages, laboratories samples, and medical supplies to be sent to other places by mail or ground transportation.
- Request office supplies and materials for the Medical Unit and maintain the internal medical inventory updated.
- Follows-up on outstanding consultant and laboratory reports, ensuring this information is relayed to the PCMOs for review.
- Utilizes PCMEDICS to assist the PCMOs and backup provider in the documentation and delivery of PCV health care, and to document clinical care given as trained.
- Update regularly all the information related to the Medical Unit, such as bills, medical inventory system, handbooks, health forms, medical presentation materials and other documents in the System and/or in the corresponding control list; under the instruction and oversight of the medical officer.
- Keep an accurate control of the expiration dates of all medicines and alert the medical officers of upcoming expired medications. Remove expired items from the pharmacy and log all items scheduled for disposal.
- Prepare draft orders for medical supplies, with Medical Officers guidance, based on needs, historical data, and inventory availability.
- Assists PCMOs in reviewing the Volunteer Health Handbook given to PCVs during Pre-Service Training (PST). Updates medical facilities and medical providers? addresses, contact information, and any other information required in this Handbook.
- Regularly updates the list of medical facilities and medical service providers under the instruction and oversight by the PCMOs, for each Region in the Host Country.
- Uploads PCV passport face pages and visa pages into PCMEDICS, monitoring regularly to assure accurate and current information.
- Receive interactive virtual or online training in English, between other functions.

Required qualifications:

a) Successful completion of a nursing school (technical/university degree), general medical school, or medical assistant program, and valid registered clinical license/diploma or applicable knowledge and experience obtained through on-the-job training under the direct guidance of a provider (supporting documentation must be submitted).
b) At least two years progressively responsible related experience with knowledge of administrative medical duties related to health services.
c) Basic knowledge of administration of health units/facilities, including procurement of medical supplies and inventory control.
d) Good knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Power Point, Access, and Excel).
e) Good computer skills. The use of standard office technology (desktop computer, mouse, and keyboard) to complete daily tasks and long-term projects. Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
f) English fluency required: At least Intermediate level
g) Others: Valid Driver?s License B1 or B2 and ability to drive a shift gear or automatic transmission vehicle (at least one year of experience driving frequently in the last 2 years) and availability to travel throughout the Colombian Andean Region (Boyacá and Cundinamarca) for several days when required, either accompanied or alone.
h) Experienced bilingual professional with interpersonal skills and demonstrable knowledge in scheduling appointments and events, organizing materials and activities related.

Salary: COP $ 50,410,043 annual basic salary (before discounts and benefits)

Other: Eligible for U.S. B1/B2 Visa and available for international travel in case it is required.

** Applicants for the position must: 1). Be Colombian citizens or have a valid work visa, as well as a valid work permit or license if required to exercise of the profession. 2). Possess an excellent manual shift vehicles driving record and valid Colombian driving license Category B1 or B2, 3). Successfully complete all Medical Examinations required by the Agency and/or the US Embassy for Staff allowed to drive official vehicles; 4). Successfully carry out the Security Study carried out by the Embassy of the United States of America and 5).Possess the complete vaccination scheme against Covid-19.
