This is a position based in Barranquilla, under the direct supervision of the Country Director and the Office of Medical Services in Washington, D.C.; to support our Medical Officers intermittently during approximately 57 non-recurring days per year; providing diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventative ambulatory healthcare services to U.S. volunteers, which includes assessment, diagnosis and management of acute episodic and chronic illness, in accordance with U.S. medical guidelines.

The Back-Up Peace Corps Medical Officer (or Back-up PCMO) main duties include when required:

- Routine primary health care to volunteers, including treatment of common illnesses and injuries;
- Individual short-term counseling on disease prevention, cultural adjustment issues, stress management and cross-cultural challenges;
- Response to emergency medical situations;
- Medical attention to Volunteers for several days in our Office in Tunja and/or in rural sites of Boyacá, Cundinamarca and the Caribbean Cost
- Alternate on call duty;
- Be available for 72continuous hours during a weekend once a month
- Be available for 3 full weeks a year on different dates based on what is scheduled by the Agency to cover the eventual absence of any of the permanent Official Doctors, for a total of 57 days in 1 year

Candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications:
- Education: Graduate of accredited school and valid license to practice medicine in Colombia.
- Prior Work Experience: Three or more years? experience in a professional practice, hospital or clinic setting.
- Language Proficiency: Strong communication and cross cultural skills in spoken and written English and Spanish - Level IV (Fluent).
- Knowledge: Experience in managing mental health issues, including counseling of patients.
- Certifiable experience in the management of gynecological examinations
- Valid Colombian Medical License and verifiable experience working in Colombia.
- Availability at the indicated times to act as PCMO Back-Up
- Availability to assist a Volunteer in person outside the city if the situation requires it, accompanied by another Staff of the Agency.

Additionally candidates will be evaluated on:
- Skills and Abilities: Strong leadership and interpersonal skills. The ability to maintain good working relationships with co-workers, staff (American, Colombian, and other) and volunteers. Ability to develop and maintain good contacts within suppliers, and health entities. Ability to plan, organize and execute volunteer health related activities and to prepare precise, analytical reports. Ability to render advice employing sound judgment within Agency guidelines. Basic computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft office is required.
- Travel: During the days in which you are available, you may be required to travel by land (in an official vehicle with one of the Agency Drivers or by public transportation), or by plane to the location of the Volunteer who requires attention and/or accompaniment.
- Eligible for U.S. B1/B2 Visa and available for international travel.
- Must be Colombian citizen or have a valid work visa.
- Successfully carry out the Security Study carried out by the Embassy of the United States of America
- Possess the complete vaccination scheme against Covid-19

Salary: US $100 per day (being available) basic salary (before legal discounts and legal benefits) during 57 non-recurring days per year. Payment will be made in Colombian pesos at the fixed exchange rate established by the Agency.
