An Accounting Assistant supports the accounting department by performing a range of clerical and administrative tasks. The role involves maintaining financial records, processing transactions, assisting in financial reporting, and ensuring that financial operations run smoothly. The Accounting Assistant works closely with other team members to maintain the accuracy of financial information and ensure timely completion of financial tasks.Key Responsibilities:
Financial Recordkeeping:
o Assist with the preparation and maintenance of financial documents, including ledgers, journals, and financial statements.
o Update and maintain accounting spreadsheets and databases.
Invoice and Payment Processing:
o Process accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR).
o Verify invoices and purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies.
o Assist in reconciling invoices to ensure prompt payments and resolve discrepancies.
Bank Reconciliation:
o Reconcile bank statements with internal records and report any discrepancies to senior accountants.
Data Entry & Documentation:
o Input financial data into accounting software or spreadsheets.
o Ensure all supporting documentation for financial transactions is properly filed and stored.
Assist in Month-End and Year-End Closing:
o Help prepare reports for month-end and year-end closings.
o Assist with balancing books, preparing financial reports, and ensuring accurate documentation.
Assist in Payroll Processing:
o Support payroll processing by verifying employee hours and ensuring accurate payroll data entry.
Tax Support:
o Assist with the preparation of tax returns, ensuring accurate records and timely submission.
o Help maintain records for sales tax, VAT, and other local taxes.
Communication & Customer Service:
o Communicate with vendors, clients, and internal teams to resolve discrepancies and respond to inquiries.
o Provide administrative support to senior accountants, auditors, and other financial staff as required.

Skills and Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
o Associates degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
o Previous experience in accounting or finance roles is a plus.
Technical Skills:
o Proficient in accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, etc.) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
o Knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
Attention to Detail:
o High attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting and data entry.
Organizational Skills:
o Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work efficiently.
Communication Skills:
o Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Problem-Solving Abilities:
o Ability to identify issues and discrepancies in financial records and work towards resolving them.
